Built in 1920, the six-story, 109 room hotel included a ballroom
that could hold 300 people and a dining room that could
accommodate 125. It was considered the elite social center of
Main Avenue in downtown Ashtabula.
Upon completion of construction in 1920, the Hotel Ashtabula
was advertised as being "fire proof" and it WAS, it survived two
fires before ceasing occupancy in 1965. However the Hotel
remained open as a restaurant for another 20 years before
officially closing in 1985; It has sat vacant ever since.
Over 20 years later, Signature Health has decided to locate their
Ashtabula offices into the former Hotel.
Signature Health was founded in 1993 and is a leader in mental
health services.
Great News for the City of Ashtabula...
Community and business leaders alike are excited for this project
to happen. It marks the beginning of a new chapter for the City
of Ashtabula.
At peak construction nearly 80 tradespeople will be on site to
complete the 31,500+ square feet of renovations.
JCI's experience and resources will be critical to a project of this
magnitude.
Quick Overview:
- The old ballroom and lobby will be restored to its original
luster.
- The old tile, marble staircase and 89 feet of railing will be
restored on the first and second floors.
- Two new elevators will be installed.
- 124 new windows will be installed.
- 2,100 linear feet of walls will be constructed.
- The land adjacent to the hotel (currently grass) will be
developed to accommodate 140+ cars.
